Night Falls on Sumeria

About 8 years ago I made a gig poster for Primus featuring a tense standoff between lion and elephant. Over the past few years I've received an avalanche of messages, comments and DM's about releasing an art only version of this print. So, I decided to use a few weeks of the pandemic to completely redraw the image. I added a generous amount of color along with new details and depth to help showcase both the characters and background textures. The art ended up being 13 colors and are all printed on specialty Stardream paper stocks for added luminosity and richness. It absolutely shimmers and shines in person and I can't wait for you all to see these up close.
.
Here is my original description from the Primus print in 2013:
.
The image relates to the track "Southbound Pachyderm" and elephant poaching in particular. I chose to represent man thru the elephant's main predator, the lion. It's part lion and part man with a human face. I did not want to be too heavy handed with any commentary and I hope that at the very least there's some tension between the two elements.
